Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome virus (HFRSV) has a tripartite, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA genome. A pair of oligonucleotides flanking the S segment was chosen as primers for reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and the other two pairs (nested primers) were chosen for RT-nested PCR. The two methods of RT-PCR and RT-nested PCR were adopted for detection of virus RNA in HFRSV infected Vero E6 cells and clinical serum specimens from twenty HFRS patients. The PCR p
